Entangled Sea Lion Spotted At San Francisco's Pier 39

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) – Rescuers were heading to San Francisco's Pier 39 Tuesday in hopes of rescuing an entangled sea lion.

Officials from the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito were expected to attempt the rescue of a sea lion that was spotted with some type of string or wire around his neck while resting on a platform near the famous tourist attraction.

A CBS 5 photographer on the scene said the animal was moving its head, but was otherwise lethargic.

Crews were expected to tranquilize the sea lion before attempting to capture and transport him to the center.
