NATOMAS (CBS13) – A Natomas woman was killed by her boyfriend early Monday morning in what police are calling an accidental shooting.
The shooting took place at a home on in the 200 block of Battle Creek Circle just east of Natomas Boulevard around 5:30 Monday morning.
Police say the man told them he accidentally shot his girlfriend.
“The caller called in and said that he just shot his girlfriend,” said Sacramento Police Officer Michele Gigante. “What he stated was that he thought it was an intruder.”
The woman was identified by the coroner’s office as Desire Ann Miller, 34. She was shot in the stomach.
“He heard a scream and saw a silhouette in his bedroom area hallway and retrieved a weapon and discharged it,” said Sacramento Police Sgt. Elmer Marzan. “He’s very distraught, very shaken about the whole event.”
Police tell CBS13 that the woman shot and killed has had a problem with a previous boyfriend.
“There was an issue regarding her past relationships about an ex-boyfriend that may have been stalking her,” Marzan said.
“All these dreams and then boom, it’s over,” said the home’s property manager, Inger Bisson.
Bisson said the boyfriend was only five days away from closing on his first home.
“It breaks my heart for both of them,” she said. “She’s gone and he isn’t going to be able to fulfill his dream as a homeowner, so it’s very sad.”
Police say the boyfriend was the one to call 911 after he fired the gun. But it was too late. Miller died at the hospital.
“I just pray for her soul,” Bisson said. “Just a tragic, tragic situation for both of them.”
Police have not released the boyfriend’s name.
