Student Arrested For Carrying Gun On Folsom Lake Campus

FOLSOM (CBS13) - A 21-year-old man was in possession of a handgun and ammunition at a local junior college on Thursday, according to police.

David Lee is being held at the Sacramento County Jail on $1 million bail after Los Rios Community College police officers took him into custody at the Folsom Lake College campus.

Some on campus Friday were on edge after learning one of their fellow students was caught with a gun and ammo in a classroom.

"It scares me a lot that someone is here with a gun," one student said.

Los Rios Community College District police got a report that Lee was acting strangely on campus.

"He was just acting, laughing, oddly, just not his typical behavior," Interim Chief Cheryl Sears said.

Police first found Lee and then the gun. Officers said he had it hidden in his waistband along with the ammo.

"We did receive some information in regard to Facebook, in reference to some pictures that were posted," Sears said.

One of those photos, according to police, is a profile picture showing him pointing what appears to be a gun at the camera. Officers searched Lee's home and say they found an illegal assault rifle.

"It is scary and with the size of Los Rios, all of our campuses, our police department is very proactive," Sears said.

Sears also credited the campus community for reporting their concerns before anything much more serious happened.

"I'm glad they got him," a student said. "I'm glad that somebody saw he was acting suspicious."

Lee faces three felony weapons charges and one misdemeanor.
