Neighborhood Mourns Senseless Murder Of Loving Teenager

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A teenager was murdered while riding his bike to his brother's house in Del Paso Heights. Now, Sacramento detectives are trying to figure out why anyone would want to kill the 19 year old.

The teen's family and friends say he didn't appear to have any enemies.

At his vigil, you can tell Michael Burdan was loved. Friends or family can't understand who would do this.

"I just can't believe he's gone," said family friend Shawna Rivera. "I'd seen him yesterday morning and my son is only a year older than him."

Friends and family of Michael grieve together as they remember the 19-year-old who seemed to get along with everyone.

"He was very sweet and would do anything for everybody, and it's just messed up that these people did this to my brother," said sister, Laura Burdan.

Friends say Michael was riding his bike, bringing strawberries to his brother's house, when he was shot and killed on North Avenue and May Street Tuesday evening.

Investigators still don't have a motive.

His murder doesn't seem real to his girlfriend.

"Last night I couldn't even sleep. I had to go sleep with my mom because, and I told my mom, I feel like he is touching my cheek, and my mom was like, 'He must be because he loved you so much,' " said Deana McDaniel.

The pain and emotions are still too raw for his mother to talk about as she searches for answers, trying to understand such a senseless act. But her friends are speaking loudly.

"You guys just took someone's son," said one friend speaking to the shooters.

A neighborhood is coming together to support one another, remembering a young man whose life was cut tragically short.

Investigators are still working on leads, but again, everybody said he was quiet and didn't have any enemies. So this really is a mystery to many people.
