Deputies Discover 50 Dead Roosters At Suspected Patterson Cockfight

PATTERSON (CBS13) - Dozens fled as Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies arrived at a suspected cockfight near Patterson Sunday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m., deputies responded to the 11000 block of Cox Road after receiving reports of people fighting roosters.

Upon arriving, deputies say more than 50 adult males ran from an old building located on the property. Several of the men jumped into the San Joaquin River to escape.

After searching the building, deputies found more than 35 live roosters in wood boxes, and about 50 dead roosters inside and outside of the building.

Animal control has been called in to assist with the investigation. No arrests have been made at this point.
