Sacramento Man Hit By Rock Thrown At Car

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — It was early morning when it happened, so he says it never saw it coming. But he felt the impact.

When we talked to Jose Barcenas, he was out of the hospital, but still had tiny shards of glass embedded in his face.

"Somebody throw a rock—I hear the noise, and it hit my face," he said.

The rock caught him just above his left eye. He says he's fortunate it was just a scratch.

"I'm alive, you know. If it hit the other parts of my head, maybe die or something like that."

Barcenas was on his way to work early Monday, taking the Highway 160 onramp from Northgate, when someone under the overpass hurled a rock at his car, shattering the driver's side window.

After taking the hit, he said he felt dizzy. Firefighters wrapped a bandage around his head, but the bleeding was bad enough that he called his daughter to take him to the hospital.

"I'm glad nothing really happened to him besides a cut," said Alondra Barcenas.

As it turns out, Jose wasn't the only one. Sacramento Police say multiple calls came in about someone throwing rocks at passing cars. Three cars were damaged, including Barcenas' Honda. One had its drivers' side door dented, while another had its front bumped and a door dented.

Barcenas says someone's stupid and dangerous idea will cost him. He has insurance, but he has to put up a $500 deductible. He'll also miss a few days work.

Once he goes back, Barcenas will take a different route than the one he's gotten used to for the last five years.

The area under the overpass is frequented by the homeless. By the time cops got out here, the suspects were nowhere in sight.
