Federal Grant Covers Portion of I Street Bridge Replacement

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Design plans for a new bridge connecting West Sacramento to Sacramento are set to begin.

The federal government has approved a portion of the proposal for federal funds to build the new bridge.

A federal grant will cover $11 million of the nearly $87 million it will cost to build the bridge.

Officials say the project is long overdue.

The federal funds will cover the initial design and environmental analysis costs to get the project started.

Officials haven't state where the remaining funds will come from.

The bridge is expected to be completed by 2020.
