Sacramento County Deputy Shoots CVS Robbery Suspect

CARMICHAEL (CBS13) — Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies are trying to find out what an armed-robbery suspect was after at a CVS, while he spends the night recovering from a gunshot wound.

Deputies responded quickly to a 911 call of a robber with a gun at the CVS on Marconi Avenue on Tuesday.

"There were several employees who locked themselves in one of the offices in the back," said Sgt. Jason Ramos.

Officers made their way to the back of the pharmacy, and that's where they said they found the suspect—behind a secured location separated by a piece of glass.

"They gave him numerous verbal commands to drop the gun and he neglected to do that," Ramos said. "Due to his close proximity with an employee and the fact he was armed with a handgun, officers fired a shot that went through the glass."

The father-in-law of one of the pharmacists who worked at the CVS rushed to the scene after he learned what happened.

"We know physically he's OK, and we are grateful for that," said Mark O'Connell. "I'm sure emotionally he is shook up."

The suspect is expected to be OK.

The deputy involved has 25 years on the department and he will be placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in this type of a case.
