Placerville Hoping For Main Street Makeover in Paint Contest

PLACERVILLE (CBS13) — An online contest could give Placerville a long sought after facelift with a few coats of paint.

People in Placerville want to restore the glitter to their gold rush town. The mayor says the run-down look on some buildings chips away at its charm.

"We're looking very tired," said Mayor Wendy Thomas. "We could use a paint job."

The city is hoping to win a contest sponsored by Benjamin Moore. Twenty winners will get a fresh coat of paint to revitalize their main streets.

Placerville Hardware, like many places on Main Street needs a touch-up. But for some, a fresh coat of color costs too much.

"It's just keeping my merchandise, paying my employees—a lot of different things to not have a lot of time to paint the fronts of our buildings," said Albert Fausel.

The winners will be announced in early July.
