UPDATE: Juvenile Detention Camp Escapee Found Dead, Second Still At Large

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY (CBS13) — A teenager is dead after he and another boy escaped from a juvenile detention center in San Joaquin County.

The pair escaped Thursday night around 7 p.m. Tracy Brown, 18, had only been at Camp Peterson for a week when investigators say he and another teen escaped the detention center.

Not long after his escape, Brown was found not breathing in a nearby field. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.

"It's been very hard, very difficult for us," said Stephanie James, chief probation officer in San Joaquin County. "These youth are under our care, and anytime something happens to them, it affects us all.

His death remains a mystery, since he didn't show any signs of being hurt or attacked.

The coroner's office will be conducting tests to determine the teen's cause of death.

Extra deputies will be searching for the other teen who escaped over the next few days.
