Valley Rainfall Records Broken

The few sprinkles we had Sunday and the couple of light showers Monday morning don't look very impressive, but just to show you how truly unusual June rain is, look at these record rainfall reports from Sunday! (source: National Weather Service)

Record daily maximum rainfall set at several northern California airports due to rare June rain yesterday.

  • A record rainfall of 0.01 inches was set at Stockton Airport Sunday. This breaks the old record of 0.00 since records began in 1941.
  • A record rainfall of trace inches was set at Modesto airport Sunday. This breaks the old record of 0.00 inches since records began in 1931.
  • A record rainfall of trace inches was set at Sacramento Executive Airport Sunday. This breaks the old record of 0.00 inches since records began in 1948.

Where else but in Sacramento in June, can a "trace" of rainfall set a record? We're going to see a lull in the light rain late Monday morning into the afternoon, but the next round of rain, which looks to be a bit more impressive, will be here later this evening and will continue into Tuesday morning.
