UPDATED: Elk Grove Man Dies In Hospital After Lake Rescue

ELK GROVE (CBS13) - An Elk Grove man has died from his injuries Monday morning after having to be rescued from a lake overnight.

It happened in a residential, manmade lake off Buckminster Drive. The Cosumnes Fire Department says the 26-year-old was swimming with a friend at the time.

His friend called 911 after shouting for him and not hearing any respons.

The fire department launched two rescue boats and swimmers in the lake. When they found him, he was unconscious and taken to the hospital.

Officials say the man had been drinking and wasn't wearing a life jacket.

"While it looks like a fairly timid body of water, once again we have a drowning with a subject without a lifejacket, no protection, no life saving protection," said Dept. Chief John Micheini.

Rescuers say the victim lives in the neighborhood and his family was present during the search.
