The business market in Sacramento is vibrant. The need for competent managers with the appropriate degrees and experience goes hand in hand with that lively trend. Sacramento is a growing market in many ways. While experience is important, more and more jobs in this sector are reserved for those with a university-level degree in some aspect of business and management. Earning one of these degrees opens doors for those who put the time into achieving them.

Estefani Arellano earned a degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix and it is something that she uses every day in her job as a benefits integration manager at American Health Care in Rocklin.

Does your job require your degree? Do you use those skills daily?

"The benefits integration manager position requires a bachelor's degree. I use the skills I acquired from my degree every day. Some of the most common skills that I use in this position are communication with team members, project management and client relations. In a communications class at University of Phoenix, I was taught how to deliver bad news positively. In my job, we are often not able to meet the project timelines due to unpredictable factors. I was able to communicate this news in a positive light due to the knowledge and skills I had learned through my degree program."

How is the marketplace for business administrators changing in the Sacramento area?

"I think there is a lot of potential for business administrators in the Sacramento area. There is more growth available in the Sacramento area as there are many new companies coming into Placer County that would allow business administrators like myself to find a strong career and continue to grow professionally."

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?

"Two of the challenges I face within my field are deadlines and meeting project milestones. This field relies on so many moving parts and requires that all parties involved work as a big team. University of Phoenix required us to work as a team to get assignments done by a deadline. The constant practice of working with different group members, learning styles and personalities, gives me a great advantage in my current position with managing and delegating tasks."

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

"The most rewarding part of my job is that the programs that are implemented bring a positive life change at the client, employee and patient level. The programs that clients are able to offer their population of workers allows that company or organization to return the savings from this program back to members and offer helpful educational resources."
