Human Remains Found In Rio Linda Field, Suspect Arrested

RIO LINDA (CBS13) - A murder suspect was already in custody when Sacramento deputies booked him in connection to body remains found in a Rio Linda field Tuesday.

William Olsen, 47, was in police custody for an unrelated charge when he was booked for murder. On Monday, sheriff's detectives were contacted by the Placer County Sheriff's Department regarding a tip about a person being buried in a field in the 7500 block of 34th Street.

Search-and-rescue dogs lead detectives to a makeshift grave on the property. An excavation of the site uncovered the remains of a human body.

The tip, which was consistent with what detectives found, also named Olsen as the suspect, say investigators. A follow-up investigation corroborated that information.

The victim has not yet been identified. However, detectives say they are looking into the possibility of the victim being a reported missing person from outside of Sacramento County.

Olsen is being held at Sacramento County Jail and is ineligible for bail.

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office will release the victim's identity pending next-of-kin notification.
