Kings Hoping For Party Atmosphere At Tonight's Season Opener

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - It's a big night for Kings fans in the capital city! The team is getting ready for the home opener Wednesday at Sleep Train Arena where reporter Sean Bennett is finding out what fans at tonight's game can expect to see new and different.

To ensure a sea of purple tonight, the team is giving out a bunch of purple merchandise.

"…Purple shirts, purple glow sticks, purple jerseys," said Kings President Chris Granger.

The king-sized night is almost here.

"I'm so excited," said former Kings coach and TV analyst Jerry Reynolds.

Employees like Richard Bejarano were at the arena early to make sure there were no streaks or smudges on the backboard.

"It's important; been here for 27 years; it's important," said Bejarano.

The 17 members of the dance team stayed at the arena until after midnight making sure they were ready.

"We've been practicing for months now, this is what makes all of that hard work worth it is being on the court, seeing the fans, feeling that energy," said Kings Dance Team manager Jenn Santich.

Energy has been building since new ownership took over the franchise.

"We want this to be a celebration of the fans -- a celebration of the journey over the last three years. And we think everyone's going to have a great time tonight," said Granger.

Having a great time is something Jerry Reynolds echoed.

"The atmosphere here -- all these purple shirts -- I'm trying to figure out how I can get one. Just looking forward to the game tonight; just see how it goes. I think there is a lot of reason for optimism," said Reynolds.

"It's going to be quite a party tonight," said Granger.

And it's a party many Kings fans have been looking to for years. Everybody from the fans, the players and the organization, is ready for the game.

The game is against the Denver Nuggets and tipoff is at 7 p.m.
