Suspect Sought In Alleged Carmichael Hit-And-Run That Injured Elderly Couple

CARMICHAEL (CBS13) — No skid marks were found where an elderly couple was struck in an alleged hit-and-run, meaning the driver didn't stop or attempt to slow down.

Every morning for the last 20 years, Barbara and Carroll Harrison took their familiar walk along a busy Carmichael road on Monday.

They wore reflective clothing and carried flashlights so drivers could see them. But the couple never saw the vehicle coming at 6 a.m.

Barbara was knocked over, and Carroll, possibly dragged, was flung across the intersection up against a telephone pole.

"Apparently, when the vehicle hit him, it catapulted him across the intersection," said Kent Harrison, the couples' son.

The couple was hit from behind, meaning the car have had to come across both lanes of traffic and into the bike lane to hit them.

Their family says Barbara is out of the hospital, but Carroll was in the ICU with two broken legs and severe brain trauma.

"Unrecognizable is the only way to describe what has happened to him," Harrison said.

The couple, together for 40 years, had their lives changed forever by someone who didn't have the heart to stop and help.

"If that person does have a conscience, I know they're feeling horrible right now," said the couple's granddaughter Heather Harrison. "We're not out for blood or anything, we just want this not to be an open-ended thing."

Barbara described the car as a mid-size sedan with rectangular taillights.
