Passenger Seriously Injured As Car Plows Underneath FedEx Truck On Watt Avenue

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A passenger was seriously injured when a car rear-ended a FedEx truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.

As the truck was approaching a red light in the right turn lane on Watt Avenue near Chenu Avenue, a 2011 Dodge Avenger was traveling at a high rate of speed straddling the No. 3 lane and the turn lane.

The CHP says the driver of the Avenger, David Longenecker, 25 of Sacramento, didn't see the FedEx truck slowing and slammed into the rear of it, forcing the Avenger underneath the truck.

The front passenger in the Avenger, Joshua Stephens, 21 of Rancho Cordova, was taken to the hospital with major injuries. Neither the FedEx driver or Longenecker were injured in the collision.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the crash.
