SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The man who stepped in to help a Sacramento police officer tackle a suspect is getting an award from the police chief today.

Louis Buchetto lives across the street from where officers had set up a perimeter. He ran to help as the suspect tried to ride off on a stolen bike.

Our camera was rolling when the suspect, Michael Kennedy, 19, of Sacramento hopped over the front fence of a home, grabbed a road bike leaning up against the porch and rode toward CBS13 photojournalist James Taylor.

Just as Kennedy reached Taylor, he veered away from an approaching Sacramento police officer who tackled him from the bike and a struggled ensued.Louis Buchetto was the second person on hand to help subdue Kennedy.

Kennedy was arrested for outstanding warrants, fleeing from police and felony assault on a police officer.
