Man Sentenced To 11 Years In Prison For Phony Bieber Concert Scheme
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a Norwegian man has been sentenced in Los Angeles to 11 years in prison for a scheme where he convinced an investor to give $1 million toward phony Justin Bieber concerts in Scandinavia.
A U.S. attorney's statement says 22-year-old Wahleed Ahmed received the sentence Monday. He was also ordered to pay more than $1 million in restitution. Ahmed pleaded guilty last week to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
The indictment says Ahmed convinced the investor he was a successful entrepreneur and had signed a contract for exclusive rights to Bieber's 2013 Scandinavian concerts. The concerts never happened.
Prosecutors say Ahmed promised the investor a $9 million return on a $1 million investment within three months.
