2 Trapped By Falling Tree

PLACERVILLE (CBS13) – Two people got the scare of their life after a tree was blown over, trapping them inside.

The scene was along Mother Lode Drive near Placerville early Wednesday morning. A driver says he was on his way home when the pine tree came toppling down.

"I was slowing down to make this turn right about here and this tree comes out of nowhere because of the high winds," said Joshua Rivard.

Luckily, a Good Samaritan helped Rivard and his passenger out the car.

The crash blocked both lanes of Mother Loade drive for several hours.

Gusts in the foothills between Shingle Springs and Placerville reached 40 mph, California Highway Patrol says.
