Homeless Man Dies After Running Over Downed Power Line With Shopping Cart

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) - Fullerton police say a homeless man has died after running a shopping cart over a downed power line.

It happened at about 4 p.m. Friday.

Police say witnesses reported the man pushed the cart over the line.

The man, who was in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name wasn't immediately released.

Electricity to the line was shut down and Southern California Edison crews were sent to make repairs.

The utility says a metallic balloon may have hit the line and played a role in downing it.

More than 700 people were briefly left without power but most had their lights back by nightfall.
