Natomas' Peregrine Park Empty After Weekend Birthday Party Shooting

NATOMAS (CBS13) — Peregrine Park is usually very busy on a day like Monday, with nice weather, but neighbors say they just don't feel safe after Saturday's shooting at a baby's birthday party.

Sacramento Police say 29-year-old Jacoby James was killed and six people were injured in the Natomas shooting, including a 7-year-old girl who was hit in the leg. They believe it may be gang-related.

A playground usually full of kids was deserted two days after a 1-year-old's birthday party erupted in gunfire. Police say more than one suspect pulled up to the party in a car just after 5 p.m. on Saturday and fired into a group of people. Investigators believe someone at the party also returned fire.

One of the bullets from the exchange hit Christie Deon's car just below the gas tank. She says she saw a gold, 4-door car speeding away from her upstairs window.

"He was leaning forward and I realized it was because he was getting shots coming from this way, return fire." she said. "He was leaning forward I saw him through the front windshield."

Spencer Williams walks through this park every day, but today he says it feels different.

"It could have happened while I was on my walk, and I could have got hit by a stray bullet," he said.
