Neighborhood Revitalization In Sacramento To Bring New Jobs In All Sectors

In the third quarter of 2014, developers are looking at older Sacramento neighborhoods and surrounding areas to reinvent and bring new jobs in all sectors. As for established centers, Sacramento offers some of the best places to work.

Curtis Park Village, located on the 72-acre Western Pacific rail yard brownfield, is being transformed by Petrovich Development Company. The village is located between two 80-year-old neighborhoods, Land Park and Curtis Park. It will also be linked with an $11 million pedestrian bridge (now under construction) to Sacramento City College with an estimated 28,000 students on campus.

Residential housing planned includes 132 market rate multi-family units, 286 traditional single-family housing units and 92 senior affordable housing multi-family units. Its retail space will encompass 180,000 square feet with the announcement that two of its four anchors will be Safeway and Pet Extreme. This will create construction jobs and permanent jobs once the development is completed.

Rancho Cordova, part of the Sacramento metropolitan area, was incorporated in 2003. In 2010, the All-America City Award given by the National Civic League selected Rancho Cordova as its winner. Considered a bedroom community, according to the Sacramento Business Journal, the city of Rancho Cordova is exploring the development of an innovation center geared towards entrepreneurs and potential business ventures including technology.

Hacker Lab in Sacramento has created technology space for tech groups, designers and game developers; it also rents space to startups. Part of supporting this maker space includes education for startups, engineers and designers.

Modern Healthcare selected its 2014 Best Places to Work and only one mental-health facility in the nation was chosen, Sutter Center for Psychiatry located in Sacramento. The magazine analyzes leadership, pay, benefits, planning, employee participation and its decision-making process.

According to Amy Delacruz RN, Sacramento is the ideal place to be a registered nurse with a pay scale significantly higher than in other parts of California, and a supportive union. Sherman Champen RN, stated that, "Specifically, there is the potential for more money, teaching opportunities, administrative opportunities and management opportunities."
