Ray Rice: Indefinitely Suspended by the NFL

By: Morgan Ragan

A new video has surfaced on TMZ Sports of Baltimore Raven's running back Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee Janay Palmer unconscious.

Previously, TMZ Sports released video of Rice dragging an unconscious Palmer out of the elevator, this is the first time video has been released that shows Rice actually punching her.

The NFL released a statement after TMZ Sports posted the video:

"We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including video from inside the elevator. That video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until today."

Hours after the new footage was released, Ray Rice's contract was terminated by the Baltimore Ravens and now the NFL has indefinitely suspended him.

Rice had been serving a two-game suspension handed down earlier this year by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. After much criticism from the public Goodell instituted a new domestic violence policy for the league.
In a letter to the 32 NFL owners Goodell said this on punishing Rice, "I didn't get it right. Simply put, we have to do better. And we will."

Suspending him indefinitely was the first step, banning him from the NFL is the next.
