55 Tons Of Trash Pulled From California Waterways

AUBURN, Calif. (AP) - State officials say some 55 tons of trash was removed from the California's drought-stricken waterways during the Great Sierra River Cleanup.

A release from organizers Saturday says more than 100,000 pounds of bottles, cans, appliances, car parts and other debris were taken from Sierra area rivers, creeks and streams.

Items in the rivers included a rubber ducky dressed as a hockey player, Christmas tree lights, a stuffed Bullwinkle Moose and a master cylinder for a 1933 truck.

Sponsors of the cleanup included 16 state legislators, most from the Sierra, Delta or Central Valley areas.
