Stockton City Councilman Arrested On Suspicion Of DUI

STOCKTON (CBS13) – Stockton's young city councilman Michael Tubbs was arrested on suspicion of DUI over the weekend.

According to California Highway Patrol, the 24-year-old Tubbs was speeding on Highway 99 near Hammer Lane a little after 3:30 a.m. Saturday when an officer spotted him. The officer was able to pull Tubbs over north of Cherokee Road.

During the stop, the officer saw signs that Tubbs was drunk. After an investigation, CHP says that Tubbs was arrested.

Monday, Tubbs released a statement acknowledging the arrest:

For those who know me, you know that I have dedicated my effort to create opportunities and positive outcomes for this community.

Today I am humbled knowing that I made a mistake that has hindered that work. On Friday evening I made a poor decision to drive when I should not have. While I thought I was within the legal limits to drive, I should have been more careful and made a different decision.

I would like to apologize to my friends, family, colleagues, and most importantly, to the constituents of Stockton that I have let down.

While I am embarrassed by my mistake, I am committed to using the experience to further my service to this community.

Out of respect for the legal process, I will not be addressing this matter other than through this statement. However, I can assure you that 100% of my efforts will remain in service to this community and as an advocate for our City and its residents while I work through the legal process to put this item firmly in my past.

Tubbs is facing charges of DUI and driving with a blood-alcohol level higher than .08.
