Modesto Church Hall Full Of Holiday Products Destroyed In Fire

MODESTO (CBS13) – A hall full of holiday cheer was destroyed after a fire at a Modesto church early Saturday morning.

The fire happened at the Holy Family Catholic Church in North Modesto, according to the Modesto Fire Department. Firefighters immediately called for a second alarm once they arrived at the scene and saw the intensity of the fire.

A total of 29 firefighters were called to the scene. The crews found heavy smoke coming from the attic of the hall, which is behind the main church building.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control in about 20 minutes and stayed at the scene for two more hours doing mop-up work.

No one was hurt in the fire or firefighter, Modesto Fire says.

The hall was reportedly full of products from a holiday boutique being put on by the church. Much of that product was destroyed, firefighters say. In total, the fire caused about $175,000 in damage.

Investigators are currently trying to figure out what caused the fire.
