Las Vegas Delays Vote Again On $200 Million Soccer Stadium Geared To Wooing MLS Team
LAS VEGAS (AP) - A split Las Vegas City Council postponed until Dec. 17 a vote on a plan to rework $50 million in public bond financing to support a developer's plan to build a $200 million downtown soccer stadium.
The 4-3 vote on Monday gave Baltimore-based Cordish Cos. and local partner Findlay Sports and Entertainment two more weeks to finalize financing.
The partially covered 24,000-seat stadium is being designed to host a professional soccer team if the developers win a Major League Soccer franchise. Minneapolis and Sacramento, California, also seek an expansion team.
The proposal was first made in May. A vote has been postponed several times, with council members balking at using public money.
The stadium would be built at a former railroad yard near the Smith Center for the Performing Arts.
