Sacramento City Firefighter Suspected Of Burglary, Elder Abuse

CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) – A Sacramento City Fire Department firefighter has been arrested under suspicion of conning his way into people's homes in order to steal.

Metro Fire sent out an alert to residents on Friday after several people in Citrus Heights reported that a man was able to get into their homes by posing as a firefighter. The man reportedly said that he was going to do smoke and carbon monoxide detector inspections.

"He came up and told me he wanted to come in, but something about him didn't smell right," said Sunrise Vista mobile home park resident Don Bitner.

Officials were quick to note that no one with the fire department does unsolicited inspections.

"If somebody called and requested us to come out and check their smoke alarm or check their carbon monoxide detector, absolutely we would do it," said Capt. Michelle Eidam with Metro Fire. "But we do not have any crews or any individuals that go out to residences to inspect anything."

Saturday evening, Citrus Heights Police announced that a 30-year-old Roseville resident Craig White had been arrested as the suspect in the case after more victims came forward.

Police noted that White is currently a firefighter with the Sacramento City Fire Department.

White has since been booked at Sacramento County Jail. He is facing five counts of burglary and three counts of elder abuse charges, police say.

Sacramento Fire tells CBS13 that White is now on paid administrative leave.
