Former Cal Fire Battalion Chief Accused Of Murder Faces Victim's Family In Hearing

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The former Cal Fire battalion chief accused of murdering his fiancée will stand trial for the crime.

Orville Fleming appeared in court today and faced his victim's family.

"I wish he would just plead guilty so we don't have to go to trial, and all the details of the murder," said Trudie Werly, Sarah Douglas' mother.

Investigators say Fleming stabbed Douglas to death over the summer in their south Sacramento home.

He then led police on a manhunt for several weeks.

Fleming faced his fiancée's mother and aunt in court Tuesday, but the victim's family says he showed little emotion.

"I have to go to her grave. It's like reliving it over and over. I just want justice.  I want him to spend the rest of his life thinking about what he did to her, and that's it," Werly said.

Orville has entered a not guilty plea. Police say he hid in the bushes near an Elk Grove neighborhood for more than two weeks before they found him.

Fleming will be back in court for his murder trial on March 17.
