Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg Shooting Movie At Beale Air Force Base

LINDA (CBS13) - Hollywood has landed in the Central Valley! Tom Hanks is reportedly filming a new movie at Beale Air Force Base about a U.S. spy plane shot down during the Cold War.

We went to Yuba County where some locals are hoping to catch a glimpse of the star.

As you can see, we're in front of Beale Air Force Base looking for Hanks. We haven't seen him yet but his presence is definitely being felt.

The small Yuba County town Linda is still talking about big-time movie star Tom Hanks.

"I just heard that he was in town and people were asking if you've seen him around," said Alyssa Daneef, a Yuba County resident.

Under the direction of Steven Spielberg, Hanks is shooting a movie near Linda at Beale. It's about the true story of CIA U-2 spy plane pilot Francis Gary Powers.

In 1960 while flying over the former Soviet Union, Powers was shot down, captured and tried in a Russian military court of spying behind the iron curtain.

There are unconfirmed reports that Tom Hanks will be playing the role of powers' attorney, who helped set the CIA pilot free.

"Well, he's a good actor," Dee Richmond, a Yuba County resident.

But there haven't been any sightings of Hanks. Military officials told CBS13 Beale air base is part of the movie set. But there's a shroud of secrecy concerning the whereabouts of Hanks and Spielberg.

Locals are still kind of excited to know that Hollywood has landed near Linda.

The movie is expected to be released next fall.
