Wetter Weather To Continue, Forecasters Say

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Forecasters are saying with increasing confidence that California will continue to a good amount of rain in the coming months.

According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, almost all of California will be seeing a 40% wetter season from January through March. The trend of wetter weather includes most southwestern states.

Despite the recent rains, California remains in a state of exceptional drought. Still, the December rainstorms have managed to improve conditions – with exceptional drought conditions now only covering 33% of the state, down from 55% since last week.

However, NASA released sobering numbers on Tuesday, noting that it would take about 11 trillion gallons of water to get California out of its historic drought.

As of Wednesday, December has already been the 11th wettest December in history for Downtown Sacramento, according to the National Weather Service.
