Stockton K-9 Stabbed By Suspect Expected To Be OK

STOCKTON (CBS13) – Police say that the K-9 stabbed by a break-in suspect Tuesday is expected to be OK.

The Stockton Police Department says Rocky, a 6-year-old Dutch Shepherd, was first taken to an emergency vet in Stockton after the incident. The vet advised that Rocky may need to undergo surgery for his stab wound, but veterinarians in Sacramento later determined that the K-9 would be able to recover on his own.

Rocky did stay overnight at an emergency vet hospital in Sacramento for observation and treatment, police say. As of Wednesday morning, police say Rocky is still in ICU at the Sacramento vet hospital.

Police have identified the suspect who stabbed Rocky as 25-year-old Patrick Wetter, a known gang member. A 3 to 4 inch curved folding knife was recovered at the 800 block of Howard Street scene.

Officers – who were called to the scene due to a reported break-in – say they were forced to open fire at Wetter after he charged at them with the knife. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both officers were not injured in the incident. They have been placed on administrative leave, per usual procedure following an officer-involved shooting.
