Police Investigating Booby Trap Found At California Homeless Camp
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- A Northern California firefighter extinguishing a blaze at a homeless encampment fell into what authorities say was a dangerous booby trap lined with spikes.
KNTV reports that the firefighter was not hurt in the fall last Sunday. No injuries were reported from the fire either.
The booby trap was a 2-foot-by-2-foot hole with wooden spikes sticking out of the bottom and covered by a burlap sack and dirt.
Authorities say the trap had been there for a while but was not designed to specifically injure firefighters.
San Jose Fire Capt. Mike Van Elgort says the trap may have been set up by those living in the camp to defense against intruders.
Police are investigating. No arrests have been made.
