CHP Officer Says He Was Shot At In Placer County

AUBURN (CBS13) - Officers are investigating gunshots that were reportedly fired at a CHP officer in Auburn.

The incident happened just before 10 a.m. on westbound I-80 at Nevada Street in Auburn, according to Dena Irwin, a spokesperson for the Placer Sheriff's Department. A CHP officer was conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle when he heard shots and believed they originated from a passing white box truck.

The officer was not hit.

Officers eventually pulled over a vehicle matching the description of the van Rocklin. Two men have been detained for questioning.

A spokesperson for the Auburn Police Department says officers searched the scene of the reported shooting and did not find shell casings.

Two law enforcement officers in Placer County have been shot in recent months. During on October crime spree that spanned two counties, Placer County Sheriff's detective Deputy Michael Davis Jr. was shot and killed by a Utah man who allegedly shot a Sacramento Sheriff's deputy just hours before. Deputy Jeff Davis, a 17-year veteran of the department, was also shot in the arm during the assault.
