Sacramento County Health Officials Testing Possible Measles Case

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) - The Sacramento County Department of Public Health is testing a possible measles case.

Results are expected to come out on Tuesday. If it is measles, it would be the first case in Sacramento County since the California outbreak was first reported.

The number of measles cases across the state now stands at 68.

Most of the cases are in Southern California where the source of the outbreak has been linked to Disneyland.

Shoppers at a Bay Area Costco are being warned they may have been exposed to measles. Warning signs have been posted at a Costco in Gilroy.

Public health officials say an infected person visited the store. They say the person was infectious at the time, leaving hundreds of shoppers vulnerable to the highly infected disease.

"We always go there every Sunday and it was very shocking because, I mean, we heard about the measles outbreak and we didn't think it would come down here to Gilroy," said shopper James Tubbs.

"Hopefully the problem calms down, the situation goes away, and we all wise up," said shopper Mark Reber.

Customers who may have been exposed are being urged to check their vaccination status for measles.

Health officials say it is now safe to go to that Costco.
