Man Turned Away From Garth Brooks Concert; Told $585 Tickets Were Already Used

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A local man's mother shelled out nearly $600 to get him Garth Brooks tickets for his birthday, only to be told someone else already had his seat. Now that man is demanding the company that sold the tickets make things right.

We've seen many happy fans getting to see the country music legend here in Sacramento, but one man walked away yesterday from Sleep Train anything but happy.

He is a country music mega star. Garth Brooks has made his way to Sacramento for days worth of sold-out shows.

"Oh, I've been a Garth fan since I was a little kid," said Sac Brinkman, who wasn't able to get in to see Garth Brooks.

Brinkman says up until last night his dreams to see Garth in person were dashed.

"When she scanned our tickets they said "access denied", that they had already been used," said Brinkman.

He was sure it was a mistake, but staff at Sleep Train said it wasn't. Someone had already come in with his and his wife's tickets worth $585.

"We have a seat; it's not like its general admittance; we have a seat," he said.

Sleep Train staff told him to contact the company who sold him the tickets. Frantically, they called third party ticket seller TicketLiquidator.com.

When he got them on the phone, they told him "Oh, this happens every once in a while. We are very sorry for this happening to you, but we can't do anything about it," he said.

Brinkman said he was not given really any explanation -- only that he could call back Monday to get his money back.

"When you spend that much on a ticket, you should not have any problems," he said.

We reached out to Ticket Liquidator and were told they were looking into the issue, but they wouldn't have more until tomorrow. Brinkman believes another third party may have sold the same seats. A check online shows others have had similar situations over the years.

And a refund is not what he wants.

"That still doesn't get me to me to see Garth. That's the biggest thing. I've wanted to see him all my life," he said.

For now, Brinkman is left Garth music at home and unanswered prayers.

"It's been pretty depressing. I mean, I was very, very pumped to go to this show," he said.

Brooks has concerts scheduled through Wednesday at Sleep Train.

We checked Ticketmaster and they show only single-seat tickets left in the upper levels of the arena.
