Star Wars Coming To Digital HD For First Time On April 10

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Star Wars fans will finally have an opportunity to buy a digital version of the first six movies of the series.

The movies have been a long holdout when it comes to a digital release, but they'll be released in a high-definition digital format for the first time on April 10.

Where can you buy it? Not everywhere, but there are more than a handful of options.

  • iTunes
  • Google Play
  • Vudu
  • Amazon
  • Xbox Video
  • Disney Movies Anywhere
  • Verizon FiOS

It's not known whether Episodes IV-VI will include the original versions in high-definition for the first time, but it's highly unlikely. Vocal fans of the series have been waiting for a version that doesn't include a CGI Jabba The Hutt randomly confronting Han Solo in "A New Hope" or where Han actually shoots first (for more examples of changes, there are plenty of rants waiting for you on YouTube).

As with previous re-releases, this will also feature numerous special features, though the dreaded "digital bonus offerings may vary by retailer" disclaimer appears. But those three fans craving some "Revenge of the Sith" bloopers won't be disappointed.

So in case you were wondering if the Star Wars fan in your life has plans this weekend, yes they're spoken for. And odds are they may have some interesting Tweets to share with the world.
