No, This Sacramento Physical Therapy Center Is Not Linked To A Terrorist Organization

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Sacramento business owner runs a thriving local company, but she wants to clear the air over concerns her company may be linked to a terrorist organization.

When you look inside a physical therapy room at Lula Capuchino's business, you'll see life-changing work being done. Stroke survivor Shari Harmon is making great progress.

But look outside the building on Marconi Avenue and you'll notice a not-so-great coincidence.

What's in a name? For ISIS Healthcare, the answer is a whole lot of unwanted attention.

"There's people who have actually stopped to take pictures and then after they take the pictures they'd call the clinic," she said.

The callers harass office staff, asking all kinds of questions.

"Who's your owner? Is your owner Caucasian? Or is your owner of ethnic origin?" she said.

Sometimes the calls got even uglier and even more ridiculous.

"Some of them have been kind of like, you know: 'Are you guys part of the terrorist group?' I'm like, 'OK, you're gonna call me like ISIS is gonna have a 1-800 number?'" she said.

One call in particular that came in was no laughing matter. The company felt threatened enough to file a police report.

"The guy sounded very agitated on the phone," he said.

There have even been break-ins at the building, though the owner says she can't be sure those are connected to the name.

But she can be sure the unwanted attention drifted into her personal life. Lulu says as she was driving her own car, she would get strange looks from other drivers. Her personalized license plate—ISIS 3—had a lot to do with it.

"I would be on the freeway and people would speed up to look into my vehicle to see who it was," she said.

Lula decided to get rid of that license plate. But she says her company's name is staying, because it stands for something and there's too much pride in what they do.

"As an acronym it's individual service--innovative solutions," she said. "We provided physical, occupational and speech therapy to the community for kids and adults that are disabled."

And they'll keep doing it, helping people regain something the company values itself—freedom.

The ISIS name for the Sacramento business came long before the terrorist group—it's been around for about a decade.
