Sacramento Soldier Ride Brings Wounded Warriors Together For Each Other

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Dozens of wounded military veterans are riding through Sacramento for a weekend of bonding as part of the Wounded Warriors Project.

A lot of the wounded warriors consider themselves a band of brothers and sisters riding for each other.

There were lots of laughs and good times on Friday at Discovery Park. The injured veterans from different wars are showing support and strength in numbers through the Soldier Ride.

The event sponsored by the Wounded Warriors Project brings injured service members from across the country together for a weekend of bonding.

While it was all smiles on Friday, the road many took to get here is paved with tears, sorrow and nightmares.

Sequoia White is a proud veteran who served in the Marine Corps and the Army. He's as big as his name, but he was tossed in the air like a rag doll when an improvised explosive device exploded near his truck in Iraq. He was severely wounded.

Like many veterans who have come to Sacramento this weekend, when he got home, he had a tough time adjusting, suffering physically and emotionally.

"Get the help because its out there for you," he said.

For Kevin Schaeffer with the Wounded Warriors Project, the ride is all about the long road to healing.

"Getting warriors out of the house and active among their peers who they can build trusting relationships with and go from that position from just surviving to thriving," he said.
