Republic FC Get Raucous Welcome At Home Opener

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Bonney Field was like it's never been before.

From super flirts to super fans, Sacramento Republic FC kicked off their home opener right.

"I feel like I'm almost at the Super Bowl, really," David Jackson said.

Around 11,000 people watched Republic's match against LA Galaxy II.

"It's a big outing for us," a Republic fan said.

One of the highlights: championship rings 2014. The team lined up for their rings at same place they took home the trophy last year.

"It's a huge feeling for us," said Karl Hanf from the Herff Jones Company.

Hanf – who also designs Super Bowl rings – made the Republic's championship and replica rings.

"It's an inaugural year, it's a great piece; a piece of art we've done for the team," Hanf said.

But Saturday night wasn't just about the match – and even David Jackson, chef at Fuzion Eatz, knows that.

"This is real big for Sacramento. Besides the Kings, we got the Sac Republic and River Cats," Jackson said.

That's right, it's about Sacramento pride.

The Tower Bridge Battalion led the grand chant for the full 90 minutes.

"Three points tonight, no doubt," Jake Escobedo said.

But their final goal is major league.

"We got the team, we got the title; let's just get it done."

Republic FC eventually won the game 3-1. Their next match, also at Bonney Field, is on April 15 against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2.
