Boy, 5, Joins Sacramento Miracle Mile After Battle With Brain Cancer

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A 5-year-old cancer survivor who joined thousands of runners in Sacramento on Sunday never thought he could be a part of something like it.

"The fact that we didn't even know if he would able to walk and he's running today, it's amazing," said his mother Maryanne Brown.

He ran the Miracle Mile at the Sactown 10 Race.

"I took medicine, then I got better," said Timmy Brown; simply put by a child who was diagnosed with cancer when he was just 2-and-a-half.

"We took him to the ER January 2012; they found a large mass in his brain—brain cancer, blastoma—and they said you're not leaving til he's better and that's exactly what happened," Brown said.

It was a hard fight for Timmy and his family, including older brother James.

"My mom stayed with him in the hospital, and my dad took me to school," James said.

Despite the long hospital stays, Timmy kept a positive attitude, in the playroom from open to close and always on his feet.

The money raised in Sacramento will go to the local Children's Miracle Network hospitals.
