Police Chase Ends Tragically With Innocent Motorist Killed In Crash

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A woman is dead after she was hit by a car being chased by police in North Sacramento Sunday evening.

The scene is near Las Palmas Avenue and Del Paso Boulevard.

Justin Brown with the Sacramento Police Department says officers in the area identified a suspect with an outstanding warrant around 6 p.m. and tried stop him, but he got in a car and took off.

A chase ensued but ended quickly in a violent crash.

"I heard the cop cars and then all of a sudden I heard a bang like a big old boom," said Jim Wright, who rushed out of his house and saw the aftermath.

According to video taken by the Sacramento Fire Department, the two vehicles involved in the crash were a minivan and a pickup truck. The cars came to a rest in front of a house after the crash.

A woman in the other car died at the scene, police say. Another passenger from the other car is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

"I didn't know what to think, and then I see that body laying there before they covered her up," Wright said.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, also suffered serious injuries in the crash. He reportedly has an extensive criminal history.
