Knitting Group Looking For More Hospitals To Donate To

EL DORADO HILLS (CBS13) – It started off simple enough - a group of women living at White Rock Village wanted to knit hats for family and friends.

"We needed somewhere to put our hats," said Gloria Webster, who helped start the knitting group.

One of the ladies thought of her sister.

"My older sister passed away before we started this, of cancer," Gail Rogers, who also helped start the knitting group.

In and out of the hospital, Rogers saw the chemo wards' need.

"I saw that they really needed blankets and they needed hats," Rogers aid.

The group also wanted to do something for newborns.

"We took like 70 hats and they were in awe of the hats, and it just started from there," Webster said.

In just 7 months, Marshall Hospital in Placerville is stocked.  The group is looking for other hospitals to donate to.

"We've made over 500 now, adult and children," Webster said.

The ladies meet two times a week and the knitting group continues to grow, making strangers now friends.

"I was really happy with it that so many people decided to do it," Rogers said. "It's good to have the community involved."

The knitting group is in need of fleece and yarn. If you would like to help, please contact White Rock Village in El Dorado Hills at (916) 941-2357.
