Driver Identified In Wrong-Way Crash That Killed 4 People

YOLO COUNTY (CBS13) – Four people are dead after a wrong-way crash west of Woodland Saturday night.

The scene was on northbound Interstate 505, north of State Route 16.

California Highway Patrol says an officer spotted a car going the wrong-way in the fast lane approaching him head on a little before 10:30 p.m. The officer made a U-turn and attempted to overtake the car, but before he could the car crashed into another vehicle.

The wrong-way driver, identified as 26-year-old Francisco Salazar Garcia, was killed, according to Yolo County Chief Deputy Coroner Gina M. Moya. It's unknown if he was under the influence at the time.

Three of the four people in the other vehicle were killed. They have been identified as Sofia Ramirez and her daughters Alyssa Santiago and Brenda Santiago. The fourth passenger, Joaquin Sanchez, suffered minor injuries.

The CHP says Garcia was going about 85 mph when he hit the other car.
