Even Inmates Are Being Asked To Conserve Water

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is doing its part to try and conserve water due to the drought – including getting inmates to do their part.

As shown in pictures posted to their Facebook page, the department has implemented a couple of new policies aimed at conserving water. Signs have been posted inside jails asking for inmates to try and save water by cutting their showers short and flushing their toilets only when necessary.

The department notes that they will be installing new water fixtures inside cells and showers that should also help reduce water usage by up to 20%.

Deputies will also now only be washing their cars only once a week – down from three times a week.

Bumper stickers are being put on patrol cars with the message, "Please forgive our dirt! We are cutting back on washing our cars as part of our effort to conserve water. Please do your part!"
