Dixon High Student Accused Of Changing Hundreds Of Grades

DIXON (CBS13) – A Dixon High School student is accused of changing more than 200 grades, the school district says.

According to the Dixon Unified School District, a teacher reported to administrators that they were seeing significant changes of a student's grades through their electronic gradebook system.

Upon being interviewed, the district says, the student divulged how one of their peers was able to hack into the electronic gradebook system and change their scores at will. A second student also corroborated the story.

The suspected hacker, 18-year-old Juan Leopoldo Ambriz, was identified after the IP address of the computer he used was identified by school IT.

Ambriz has reportedly made a full admission. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon and faces a felony charge of unlawfully altering computer data.

Investigators believe there have been more than 200 grade changes to over 30 students.

"I am joined by the staff at Dixon High in expressing my profound disappointment with regard to this situation. The fact that one student was both able to and did change grades is distressing. The additional fact that more than 30 other students appear to have enlisted his assistance in these dishonest and unethical acts is of grave concern to all of us," Superintendent Brian Dolan said in a statement.

It is unclear what sorts of consequences the students who had their grades changed will face at this time.
