Bid For World's Largest Monopoly Board On Display In Suisun City

SUISUN CITY (CBS13) — Dozens of people are working to build a life-size monopoly board in Suisun City in a bid for the world record.

The planning process for the 61-foot-by-61-foot board took weeks of measuring.

"For Guinness Book of World Records, every piece has to be proportional to the original pieces. So we actually had to measure every single piece and then scale it up to the proportion that would beat the current record," said Michael Brito with the Salvation Army.

On this day, it starts to look like the classic game, just way cooler than Savannah DeMartile, 9, is used to seeing.

"It's going to be like oh wow! That's like the biggest game I've ever seen. There's people actually moving around," she said.

Each property square has decals, with every color perfectly picked to beat the current record by more than 1,000 square feet.

The staff at the Salvation Army Kroc Center and volunteers are doing this to bring attention to Krocfest, which takes place on Saturday and benefits the Kroc Camp Scholarship Fund.

The board will only be up a day—it'll come down by Sunday.
