$85M In Renovations In Store For San Juan District Schools This Summer

CARMICHAEL (CBS13) – School is out for the summer for students in the San Juan Unified School District, but now marks a busy time for construction on campuses.

The district is spending more than $85 million in improvement projects this summer.  The construction boom is made possible because of the Measure J and Measure N bonds voters approved in 2002 and 2012.

At Churchill Middle School, the district is adding 12 classrooms.

Other summer projects include: designing a new science wing at Bella Vista High School, building a science lab at Pasadena Avenue Elementary, and upgrading wireless technology at 54 schools.

"We can only rely on the voters at this point. There is no state bond or state matching funds that we can rely on, so we rely on the support of our communities to invest back into our school districts," said Frank Camarda with the district.

Another big project includes converting the Citrus Heights Elementary School campus into the new Sylvan Middle School, which is why the school celebrated its last day ever this morning.
