BREAKING: Malone Reaches Agreement With Nuggets
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Denver Nuggets have come to agreement with former Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Malone to fill their coaching void.
Malone will join a familiar face as his old general manager from Sacramento, Pete D'Alessandro, was recently hired by the Nuggets, replacing Tim Connelly.
After being an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors from 2011-2013, Malone was chosen by the Sacramento Kings as the head coach in the summer of 2013. His rookie season as head coach resulted in a 28-54 record and another missed postseason. Then, after a 11-13 start of the season this year, he was replaced by Tyrone Corbin who went on to put up a 7-21 record.
The Kings finally chose the Hall of Fame coach George Karl who ended the season on an 11-19 run.
Malone was previously an assistant coach for the New Orleans Hornets from 2010-2011, the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2005-2010 and the New York Knicks from 2001-2005.
The Nuggets had a dismal year last season, going 30-52 in a tank effort, earning them the No. 7 pick overall in the draft at the end of the month. They also own the 57th pick overall that they acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers.
